Seniors Look Ahead as They Celebrate the End of the College Counseling Process
Posted 05/02/2016 01:00PM

After 18 months of self-study, deadlines and decision making, the first of May is a moment to pause, celebrate and share.

On April 29, students in the Class of 2016 congregated to do just that at Flintridge Prep’s annual Senior Celebration. They paused for photos, shared stories, and then took to the stage in Norrris Auditorium in front of parents, faculty, friends and each other, one by one declaring their intentions and putting their pin into a large-scale map.

Director of College Counseling Gloria Diaz Ventura congratulated the class on their soulful decision making process, and thanked parents for their patience, good humor, and support.

And there was much to celebrate. The choices, from big public schools to small liberal arts schools, reflect the diversity of the class as well as the students’ individual passions. More than half the class will attend college out of state, while 46% will stay in California. Members of the Class of 2016 have accepted merit scholarships totaling $890,000 over four years.

As students begin to look ahead, there is much to do in the present moment. They will soon be making culminating presentations in many classes, heading off for the class trip and enjoying Commencement weekend.
